Ethics Roundtable: Today at 1 p.m. ET
Join us for today's Ethics Roundtable,The Ethics of Just War: Ancient Traditions and Modern Challenges, to be held from 1 - 2 p.m. ET via Zoom. For centuries, the just war tradition has provided one of the most influential ethical frameworks for examining the morality of armed conflict. Drawing from philosophical, religious, legal, and political traditions, just war thinking seeks to establish moral limits on when nations may resort to force, how wars should be conducted, and what responsibilities remain when conflict ends. Yet in a world shaped by rapidly changing technologies, shifting geopolitical realities, and new forms of warfare, longstanding principles concerning just cause, legitimate authority, proportionality, discrimination, and civilian protection face increasingly complex challenges. This roundtable will explore not only whether and when war can be morally justified, but also who has the authority to make such judgments, who bears responsibility for the consequences of armed conflict, and whether traditional ethical frameworks remain adequate for contemporary warfare. Learn more.
Ethics Roundtables are presented virtually in partnership with Felician University and are free and open to the public. |

APPE Board Seeking Nominations The nomination period for the 2027 APPE Board of Directors Election is now open. Candidates must be current APPE members in good standing of at least two consecutive years (with a preference for three or more), with dues paid and no unresolved APPE Code of Conduct or conflict of interest issues. If selected for the slate, candidates will be announced at the annual conference and stand for election in spring, 2027. Board terms are four years and this year's terms will run from July 1, 2027 - June 30, 2031. If elected, directors must maintain their APPE membership in good standing throughout the term of their service on the Board. We are striving for an APPE Board that is inclusive and diverse and that will help guide the organization during the coming years. We encourage nominations that broaden the range of perspectives and experiences currently represented on the Board, including those from communities and identities not always well represented in our fields. We also welcome recommendations of candidates from a wide array of disciplines, sectors (including outside academia), backgrounds, orientations, and abilities to strengthen the Board’s capacity to serve the organization and its mission.
If you are interested in submitting a nomination, please read our Board Expectations and Roles & Responsibilities of Board Members. Self-nominations are welcome. The deadline to nominate is November 30, 2026. |
